Project Wonder: The Joy of Ordinary Wonder!

At the heart of creativity is curiosity and wonder. And strong creative writers and thinkers are grown from opportunities to pause, observe, wonder, and share those thoughts with a supportive and equally inquisitive community.

Project Wonder invites children to tap into their inner artist-scientist-explorer selves. Step by step, Project Wonder will guide participants to go from wondering to creating through a series of leaflets.

Join us as Wonderers as we unlock new ways of looking at the ordinary!

To begin, we embark on a year of colour, starting with blue.

Part I: Blue

We spend every day under the sky. We go to school, play in the park, and bumble all over the city right underneath it. Whether it’s sunny and crisp blue or cloudy and white, it’s always right there and we’re always right here. But how often do we stop and take a moment to look up?

In the late 1700s, Swiss physicist and mountain climber Horace Bénédict de Saussure had a question. He wondered, “Why does the sky get bluer the higher up the mountain we go?”

Inspired by him, we have made a cyanometer for you to measure the blueness of the sky in our first Project Wonder leaflet! Let’s take a few minutes a day to pause, find a patch of sky, hold up our cyanometer and wonder.
