We believe that stories—real and imagined—enrich our lives and that there is an audience for well-crafted and thoughtful writing, no matter how old the writers are. ECP publishes writing by young people to offer students real readers for their writing and the chance for every student to experience the magic of seeing their words, thoughts and ideas in print.

Words From Our Founder

When ECP first opened its doors back in Summer 2008, our primary goal was to reimagine writing instruction in Hong Kong – to offer a method that inspires a passion for writing and instills both skills and confidence. Since then, we have demonstrated that our approach and innovative project-based curriculum do just that, and we have published the writing of thousands of young writers in books, magazines and newspapers.

At the heart of our approach are two core beliefs – that there’s a writer in every one of us, and that young writers’ stories are worth sharing – and we believe this now more than ever.

At our 15th anniversary, we embarked on a number of initiatives to honour the young writers and stories from the past 15 years, and we were privileged to hear from alumni and parents about the impact ECP has had on them. It’s been amazing to see our writers grow up, and even more amazing to see how their belief in themselves as writers endures as they go off to university and into the workforce. We are proud of this community of writers that we continue to grow, and we now offer a number of programmes to nurture and connect this community in different ways.

The benefits of writing and creating are too great for anyone to believe they “can’t” or they’re “not good at it.” In today’s world, we believe that children and young people need, more than ever, safe spaces where children and young people feel confident to express themselves, create, connect, collaborate and reflect.

We would like to thank all our students for the stories you have shared with us and your readers in Hong Kong and elsewhere; all our teachers and partners for helping to make ECP what it is today; all our ECP parents, friends and families for your continued support; and all of you for inspiring us every day to do this work that we love.
