Writing Prompt: Work It Out!
Like several of our other prompts, this one asks the writer to think about creative conflict resolution. With a strict location and time limit, the prompt really challenges the writer to think about how to use their words and persuade another person to listen to and agree with them under pressure. Though you are limited to a classroom, two characters, and an hour-long free period, you can let your imagination run wild over how two people on opposite sides might resolve their differences.
This prompt allows you to start from the perspective of someone completely different from you, and think about a situation where you have just butted heads so much that the principal had to get involved. Then, you must write try to your way out of this worst case scenario. Even if your characters do fully not make up at the end, the story could still delve into the many ways that two enemies may find some common ground.
