Writing Prompt: Hidden Past…

#Get Started

This plays on the common fascination that many of us have with our heritage and background, as well as our love for clever rule breakers and dashing anti-heroes in our favorite stories: from Artemis Fowl to From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, from The Ickabog to Pirates of the Caribbean. Everywhere we look, apparent villains are redeemed with adventures and misunderstood outlaws capture our imagination. Now, our young writers can try their hands at creating their own.

Before you start, you can draw inspiration from your favorite fictional lawbreakers. Maybe it’s the classic Robin Hood or the dapper Puss in Boots. Maybe it’s the kid genius/criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl or the lovable Kronk from The Emperor's New Groove. Regardless, think of what might have gotten them on to a list of famous criminals, and try to merge that with the imaginary family history in your story. The possibilities are endless, and you are invited to play around with the fictional skeletons in your family’s closet. Who knows what sort of secrets may or may not lie in your past…
