Textscapades (Ages 10-13)
Maybe you’ve fallen asleep while reading a textbook… but have you ever fallen INTO one? That’s right—in this workshop, students imagine what happens when by some stroke of luck (or misfortune, depending what chapter they’re on), they fall into their textbook, be it for math, science, geography or history! With such wide scope, this summer creative writing workshop gives writers the opportunity to follow their interests and experiment with different genres, depending on the subject they choose: science fiction, adventure or survival stories, or even historical fiction. We will work through the process of diving into research and considering the features of their chosen genre -- key skills for independent writing projects. Given the short timeframe and potential for lengthy projects that cannot be completed within the week, the pieces from this workshop will not be published.
