Overview
In this unique workshop that combines creative writing with a game, students will first play a storytelling card game and then learn how to collaboratively add details, dialogue, description and more as they both write and play Pass the Story.
Learning objectives
Specific to this workshop:
  • Primary focus is on story development
  • Play the game to inspire stories
  • Work collaboratively to add details and elaborate using dialogue and description
As a writer:
  • Be introduced to ECP process of writing and revising writing
  • Stretch creative thinking and take creative risks
  • Become aware of the disconnect between what the writer knows/imagines and what the reader knows if it’s not written down
  • Express ideas with detail
  • Follow a simple story structure
  • Sequence ideas logically and step-by-step
  • Use vocabulary that they know in their writing
  • Improve writing skills through individualised feedback from the teacher
As a learner:
  • Develop creativity and collaboration through a workshop environment
  • Learn to look at own work critically and consider how to improve it
  • Learn to be open to and respond to constructive feedback
  • Gain confidence as a writer by writing and sharing writing with peers
