Intro to Analysis: Picture Books & Songs (Ages 9-11)
Overview
Learning to read texts carefully is an important skill as students begin to read more complex texts across all subjects. In this workshop, students will be introduced to literary devices, textual analysis and basic essays—through picture books and pop songs! In each week, students will analyse picture books or the lyrics of some popular songs, identifying the literary devices and other structural or illustration choices that writers employed to express their feelings and ideas. As the students listen, read and analyse, they will also learn the basics of writing clear and well-organised literary essays.
