Overview
Sometimes, one thing just leads to the next. Inspired by Laura Numeroff's beloved children's story, If You Give A Mouse a Cookie, young writers will work collaboratively to create a story about what happens when a Christmas character makes a special request that turns into a full day of treats and trouble.
Learning objectives
Specific to this workshop:
- Be introduced to a circular story structure
- Explore the idea of cause and effect in different situations
- Work collaboratively to create the plot of a story, but each write one section individually
- Learn and apply different planning and writing techniques, including using storyboards and adding sensory description, supporting character details and dialogue
- Work collaboratively with peers to revise
- Be introduced to the concept of revising a piece of writing
- Stretch creative thinking and take creative risks
- Express ideas with detail
- Follow a simple story structure
- Sequence ideas logically
- Use vocabulary that they know in their writing
- Improve writing skills through individualised feedback from the teacher
- Review technical skills in context of their writing
