First Contact (Ages 11-14)
Overview
In the future, humankind explores the far reaches of space. Whether seeking new life or just by sheer accident, humans make first contact with an intelligent alien species. A terrible calamity has befallen the alien planet and it’s up to aliens and humans to work together and save their world. In this science fiction setting, students imagine visiting an alien planet and striving to solve a possibly world-ending crisis. Is first contact peaceful or problematic? What would an alien civilisation be like? How do the two species learn to understand each other? These are some of the questions that students will answer as they craft their own science fiction story set in space.
