The Elephant Community Press School Publication programs offer English language learners an opportunity to write about a variety of topics in English and be published!
Read by parents, teachers and fellow students, these school publications offer students a real audience for their work and an opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas with their school community.

Elephant Community Press is pleased to offer schools the opportunity to produce their own school publications, written by and for their students, with the guidance of an ECP teacher. Students develop writing and editing skills and gain valuable experience working on a deadline and revising for publication!
We offer two programs that can be catered to schools’ individual needs:
Young Reporters
Meeting on a weekly basis, students in the Young Reporters program learn the journalism skills required to write and produce a student newspaper. Students develop news stories and features about events, students and teachers in the school community. Students also practise editing skills as they revise their work for publication. ECP publishes two issues of the school newspaper each term, providing students with a realistic experience of writing and publishing on a deadline.
Taught in English by a native English speaker, this program can be offered as an interest group or after-school activity open to students of all ability levels.
Young Writers
Students in the Young Writers program have the opportunity to read and write a wide range of creative texts. Suitable for more advanced English students, this program focuses on examining model texts closely and looking at the techniques used by real writers. Students read both ECP publications written by other students in Hong Kong and classic children’s stories read by students around the world to inspire them to write creative pieces of their own. After a rigorous revision and editing process, finished pieces are collected and published once a term in a professionally printed, school literary magazine.
Although the focus of this program is on creative writing, students can also learn to write articles on school news to supplement the stories and poems in the magazine.
