“The Break-In!” by Tanya D, age 10

tale in two verses

Poems don’t always have to be silly. They can be suspenseful or heartbreaking too. Here’s an excerpt from 10-year-old Tanya D’s “The Break-In!”, published in our 2012 book “A Tale of Two (or more) Verses.”

It was night-time now, and the moon was full.
Somewhere in the distance, Roddy heard a yowling wolf.
Suddenly there was a thud; he saw the main gate break.
And just before the broken gate was the wanted thief—Crake!
Crake was very clever, he had succeeded many times.
He was dangerous so beware at 12 when the clock chimes.
