Charity Partners

Since the publication of our very first book, Elephant Community Press has committed to supporting community organisations through the sales of our books. Net proceeds of all books published from our term time writing workshops are donated to designated charities.

ECP and our student authors are proud to support the following local and international charity partners:

Foodlink Foundation

Foodlink Foundation is a Hong Kong based registered charity, whose mission is to minimize hunger, fight poverty and foster nutritional wellness while reducing food wastage in the Food & Beverage Industry. Foodlink collects safe-to-eat surplus food from 4 and 5 star hotels, clubs, restaurants and bakeries and delivers the food to those in need, including homeless individuals living in shelters, street-sleepers, migrants, asylum seekers, the unemployed, the elderly and disenfranchised individuals and families.

Hong Kong Dog Rescue

Hong Kong Dog Rescue was founded in 2003 for the specific purpose of saving dogs and puppies from the Hong Kong Government’s Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) Animal Management Centres, where around 10,000 dogs and puppies are destroyed every year. A lot them of are family pets that have been abandoned on the street or in country parks, while others have been directly surrendered. They have just four days to live unless they are chosen for re-homing.

All of the dogs and puppies that HKDR takes in for re-homing are health checked, vaccinated, given flea, tick and heartworm prevention and de-sexed. Those who require additional veterinary treatment or surgery are given the best available. Dogs with behaviour problems are rehabilitated using Positive Reinforcement training methods to make them ready for adoption. HKDR is proud to be a No Kill Organisation, meaning that no dog under its care will be euthanised for any reason other than when it is the only humane option.

Make-A-Wish® Hong Kong

Make-A-Wish® Hong Kong grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions in Hong Kong and Macau, thereby enriching their lives with hope, strength and joy. Make-A-Wish® Hong Kong was founded in 1989. It registered as a   non-profit charity organisation in Hong Kong in 1998 and became a member of Make-A-Wish Foundation® International, which has its headquarters in the USA. Make-A-Wish® Hong Kong was set up to grant one special wish to children in Hong Kong and Macau who are suffering from serious or life-threatening medical conditions. By doing so, we hope to bring them joy and hope, and create wonderful memories for them and their families.

Wish Children (children who apply for wishes) can request a small gift, like a toy, or a bigger gift, such as travelling abroad. Wishes for children to meet with their favourite  idols or celebrities are also popular. With the excitement of having their dreams realised, many children become more joyful and are more optimistic in fighting their medical conditions. Learn more at www.makeawish.org.hk.

  • I liked making the school magazine because it’s a great honour and I was very proud when I received it. Also, others could have a copy of the magazine too! I think the magazine is a good chance for us to show our writing and it’s a keepsake for us.- Karen, aged 11
  • Elephant Community Press is an amazing organization with innovative ideas for encouraging young writers. Having her work published helped build my child’s sense of self-worth and having the proceeds of the books go to charity taught her about how her work can make a difference. My daughter has built her self-confidence and deepened her love for writing. This is hands down her favorite extracurricular activity — and as a side note, it has helped her enormously in school too!- Rosa Joshi, Parent
  • Our daughter has enjoyed reading and writing very much since early childhood. She’s always dreamed of becoming an author having her own book to share with family, relatives and friends. I’ve seen an obvious improvement in her work in the last few months. My wife and I thank you so much for your fruitful advice during and after the workshop.- Parent
  • I think my son has improved a lot since he started the writing class. He now finds it easier to put his ideas into writing. Thanks very much. I am sure with your help, his writing technique will improve as well.
  • During the last couple years, Jocelyn gained a lot from your teaching and guidance and we can see improvement in her overall English presentation and writing. She will be moving to an undergraduate programme in the UK in Sept, which is a new milestone in her life. I have to express my sincere thanks to you.

  • Thanks very much once again for the wonderful program you have conducted in the school. The kids have enjoyed it thoroughly and of course learnt a lot. I can clearly see that my daughter has benefited from all the guidance and encouragement you have provided. There was a lot of personal attention given to each child, which is truly mazing given that these were group sessions.- Deepika Deshpande, Parent
